Rollin...
I’ve been saving up some money for two years coz i wanna buy new tyres for my old green 1.1 but unfortunately it’s expensive. I use the factory-made tyre ( American Dunlop tyre with white stripes on both sides ) coz it’s future-proof and the wheels don’t skid easily on slippery roads.
We chopper-cruiser owners don’t zigzag like the sport-touring bikers. “The world of our bikes” is the long, straight road. The problem is the following: As i wrote we don’t zigzag many times and that’s why the lower part of tyre will be worn out and not the left or right sides.
The shape of tyre looks like any cube if you face the bike and under these circumstances it’s hard to navigate it. The chromed spoke wheels are really nice but it’s hard to clean and the wheel rim will be rusty because of water. My Shadow is 16 years old and i’m sorry to say it got the same problem. The water is seeping into the wheel rim and it got rusty. I had to do something... After lifting the bike up i took off the fenders, exhaust pipe, saddle boxes and the rear crash bar too and i was able to take off the wheels. That wasn’t a piece of cake.
Afterwards i took off the tyres and tried to remove the rust. After cleaning i used a special paint against the rust. Two days later it got dry and i put on the brand-new Dunlop tyres ( with white stripes on both sides ) and fixed everything. Let’s roll again. I can turn right and left safely again. That’s very important.
There’s a huge difference between a worn out tyre and a brand-new one.
Greetings...
Akos.
